Simplaris BlogCast - If you are a business owner, or small business marketer with a blog, this one will monitor your blog RSS feed for updates, and update your profile feed with each new blog post. I like it because it updates your status feed, and puts an icon next to the feed update that makes it stand out to visitors.
Networked Blogs App – Similar to Simplaris, this Facebook application not only updates your profile feed with each new post, but it also is a place for blog owners to build a reader base. When you get enough readers to join your blog ‘page’ it unlocks other features. You can ‘go pro’ giving you the ability to message all readers (similar to fan pages). B Vitamins Aid in Protecting Against Cardiovascular Disease

Certain B vitamins, such as folate and B6, lower levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that is associated with cardiovascular diseases. Hiroyasu Iso, from Osaka University (Japan), and colleagues conducted a study involving 23,119 men and 35,611 women, ages 40 to 79 years, who were enrolled in the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study, following the subjects for an average of 14 years of follow-up during which the incidence of stroke and heart disease were tracked. Women who reported eating more foods containing the B-vitamins folate and B-6 were less likely to die from stroke and heart disease. Similarly, Japanese men reporting diets high in these same B vitamins were less likely to die of heart failure. Writing that: “Dietary folate and vitamin B6 intakes were inversely associated with mortality from heart failure for men and with mortality from stroke, coronary heart disease, and total cardiovascular disease for women,” the team concludes that: “High dietary intakes of folate and vitamin B6 were associated with reduced risk of mortality from stroke, coronary heart disease, and heart failure among Japanese.”

A recently discovered variant of the fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) gene carried by nearly 50% of those of western European descent, is not only associated with higher weight and greater waist circumference, but has now been found to be expressed in the brain. Paul M. Thompson, from University of California/Los Angeles (UCLA; California, USA), and colleagues compared brain scans of more than 200 people and found that people with the obesity variant of the FTO gene had 8% less tissue in their frontal lobes, and also had 12% less tissue in their occipital lobes. By reducing the amount of brain reserve available to compensate after brain plaques typifying Alzheimer’s Disease form, these reduced brain volumes may put those with the FTO gene variant at particularly susceptible risk of succumbing to Alzheimer’s. The team warns that: “These brain maps reveal that a commonly carried susceptibility allele for obesity is associated with structural brain atrophy, with implications for the health of the elderly.”
